Restaurant Akropolis

Greek cooking on the market square since 1992. Souvlaki, gyros, lamb, seafood and a terrace garden looking toward the old town. For many people in Havelberg and for guests, a regular date.

How it began

In November 1992 Konstantinos Galanis opened the Akropolis in Havelberg. The rooms soon drew people from the Elbe-Havel country. In May 2001 his cousin Eleftherios Tioutios took over. A marble plaque on the wall marks 25 November 1992.

Today locals and guests come for Greek plates, wines of the country and, on some evenings, live Greek music. Firms and families mark anniversaries here; coach parties are welcome. In fair weather Retsina tastes well on the terrace. The terrace garden holds about 100 seats; the restaurant as a whole about 180 people, 80 of them in a separate hall.

In the evening candlelight, roses and the Greek fittings give a quiet, festive air. The halls with stucco and stone walls suit a longer meal for two or a group.

Kitchen and what to order

The menu holds classic Greek dishes: meze, salads, souvlaki, gyros, lamb, steak, fish and seafood, plus baked specials and children’s plates.

Starters / meze: Tzatziki, dolmadakia, bougourdi, tiropitakia, meze cold or hot (about €6.50-15.90)
Pork: Souvlaki, gyros, Gyros Phantasia, Costa special (about €18.90-24.90)
Lamb: Lamb fillet, lamb chops, stifado (about €23.90-27.90)
Grill platters: Larissa, Mykonos and Havelberg platters (about €23.80-23.90)
Fish and seafood: Calamari, scampi, red fish, zander (about €23.50-27.90)
Poultry: Chicken breast grilled or in Metaxa sauce (about €21.50-23.90)

Personal tip: the Mykonos platter (no. 66) with tzatziki, rice and salad. I like chips instead of rice. Pork steak, souvlaki, sausage and gyros on one plate.

The full menu is on the table. Cold platters and dishes can be ordered to take away if you ask.
